IOWC in the News

One of our project managers, Dr. Philip Gooding, has partaken in several media interviews during the last two weeks, discussing his collaborative research on historical climate reconstruction in Tanzania. For a list of media, see below:

  • Erin Seize of Montreal CityNews conducted an interview at the IOWC, which was aired on Tue 14 and Wed 15 Jan, and is available online alongside an article co-written with Jordan Omstead of the Canadian Press here.
  • Stephane Giroux of Montreal CTV News conducted an online interview, an abbreviated version of which was aired on Fri 10 Jan. A fuller version alongside Omstead’s original Canadian Press article is available here.
  • Noovo Info translated and published Omstead’s Canadian Press article in French, and is available here.
  • The original press release, written by Katherine Gombay, remains available on the McGill website in both English and French.

At around midday on Fri 17 Jan, Montreal CTV News positioned this research as the lead headline on their homepage:

The research article, which Philip co-authored with Melissa J. Lazenby, Michael R. Frogley, Cecile Dai, and Wenqi Su, is available here: ‘Documents, reanalysis, and global circulation models: a new method for reconstructing historical climate focusing on present-day inland Tanzania, 1856–1890,’  Climate of the Past, 20, 12 (2024), 2701-2718.
