Julie Babin

Julie Babin was a postdoctoral fellow at the Indian Ocean World Centre from 2021-2022. She investigated the impact of climate change in the Arctic for Asian states from a socio-economic perspective, considering governmental and business public policies. She also investigated the impact of climate change for local Asian communities, such as the Haenyeo community in South Korea. (Read more).

Archisman Chaudhuri

Archisman Chaudhuri was a postdoctoral researcher at the Indian Ocean World Centre from 2019-2021. He researched the impact of droughts and famines in Coromandel and in island South-East Asia in the seventeenth century. (Read more).

Alastair McClure

Alastair McClure was as a postdoctoral fellow at the Indian Ocean World Centre from 2018-2019. He is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong. (Read more).

Zozan Pehlivan

Yoshina Hurgobin

Yoshina Hurgobin was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Indian Ocean World Centre from 2016-2017. She is now an Assistant Professor of South Asian History at Kennesaw State University (KSU). (Read more)

Veysel Şimşek

Veysel served as a postdoctoral research fellow and interim co-director of IOWC in 2015–16, and subsequently held a Chauncey Postdoctoral Fellowship in Grand Strategy with Yale’s International Security Studies in 2016–18. He is currently a course lecturer in Turkish at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University. (Read more)

Rashed Chowdhury

Rashed Chowdhury was a postdoctoral fellow at the Indian Ocean World Centre from 2014-2016. He is now an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Manisa Celal Bayar University in Manisa, Turkey.

Anna Winterbottom

Anna Winterbottom works on the early modern Indian Ocean region and the European colonial presence there. She is particular interested in the history of medicine, science, and environment. Anna was a postdoctoral fellow at the IOWC from 2012-2014. (Read more)

Hideaki Suzuki

Hideaki Suzuki arrived at the IOWC in February 2012 as a visiting scholar after receiving his PhD from the University of Tokyo in 2010. He was an IOWC postdoctoral fellow from 2012-2014. He is currently an Associate Professor at the the National Museum of Ethnology (Osaka, Japan), and works on Indian Ocean World history and global/world history.
