Grace Ngugi

Grace N. Ngugi is a doctoral candidate at Harvard university’s Departments of History & of African and African American Studies.


Her current research focuses on the history of gender, mobility and intimacy in the Indian Ocean. She combines fragmentary archival material and interdisciplinary methodologies—Black feminist theory, critical memory and archival studies, among others—to center people from the Swahili coast of East Africa and explores how they navigate(d) the terrain of slavery and its afterlife.
