Ph.D. Fellowship in Indian Ocean World History

The Canada Research Chair in Indian Ocean World History at of the Department of History, McGill University, is pleased to offer an $18,000 Ph.D. fellowship, beginning in 2007.

While all proposals within the field of Indian Ocean World History will be considered, those relating to human migration, including the slave trade, and trade and other disapora in the Indian Ocean World are particularly welcome. Ideally, the successful candidate should possess a good working knowledge of one or more relevant languages. The successful applicant will work under the direction of Professor Gwyn Campbell, Canada Research Chair in Indian Ocean World History.

The fellowship comprises a stipend of $10,000 plus a research assistantship of $8,000. Research assistantship tasks (approximately eight hours per week) include maintaining the IOWC web site, assisting in the organization of workshops and conferences, and administration.
