Alexandre Corriveau-Bourque

Alexandre, who is studying for a B.A. with a Major in Anthropology and Honors in International Development Studies, was in 2006 inscribed on the McGill University Dean’s Honors List for being amongst the top 10 percent of students in the Faculty of Arts during the winter semester, 2006.

Vitally interested in issues of poverty and development, Alexandre has engaged in voluntary work in Canada and in Developing countries: In 2005 he served for a week as translator for a team of gynaecologists and general surgeons in a rural Dominican town and in 2006, following participation in McGill’s 3-month Field Semester in Africa, he worked as a Project Coordinator for the Gembe East Health and Development Project in the Suba district of Kenya, helping to create a series of community organizations to improve malaria protection, sanitation, and food security, as well as to assist HIV/AIDS orphans and widows and combat public prejudice towards them.

As well as assisting in the organisation of the Indian Ocean World Centre’s conference on Sex, Power and Slavery, to be held from 19-21 April 2007, Alexandre is currently undertaking a study of children in conflict zones in the Great Lakes region Eastern Africa.

An avid outdoorsman and white water raft guide, Alexandre is fluent in French, English and Spanish – and is learning Kiswahili.
