Mini Beatty Lecture
2007
Since 1989, the Beatty Memorial Lectures have been supporting "mini Beatty" lectures organized by one or more McGill academic units. In 2007, internationally-acclaimed author and scholar David Brion Davis, Director Emeritus of Yale's Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition was awarded a mini Beatty award. His Beatty lecture entitled "Slavery, Sex and Dehumanisation," which was recorded by the CBC, constituted the keynote speech at the IOWC's international conference on Sex, Power and Slavery: The Dynamics of Carnal Relations under Enslavement, held at McGill University, Montreal from 19-21 April 2007.
